After a long year full of school and work I finally managed to get away for a few days with my father and many other members of the Jackson fishing team in Montegut, Louisiana. The seven-and-a-half-hour ride was grueling but it was totally worth it. The bonus for getting to PAC Kayak Rentals at midnight was because they have lights all over the waters edge and you can catch small and keeper sized speckled trout till you drop from exhaustion. After a couple hours of trout frenzy, we had to get some sleep! At sunrise we were rigging our Coosa HDs and getting ready to hunt for fish.

The first day we had prime conditions, there was zero wind and nothing but fun to be had, I had a mission to sight catch some nice redfish and I succeeded in getting my personal best three times that day. Standing and stalking reds in the marsh was intense! My best redfish didn’t come till that night when we were fishing off the dock and my first cast for small trout turned into a five-minute fight with a gorgeous 27-and-a-half-inch redfish.

The second day was a little windy with still plenty of fish; the wind just made it a bit harder to see them. We fished a little makeshift tournament that my team lost, but we still had some incredible experiences. Throughout the trip we found some awesome spots that we can’t wait to get back to. This trip was full of fun fish, good food, and great friends and I can’t wait to do it again.
