After the hectic year of competitions last season, it was nice to have my first fresh water trip of the year as a social/pleasure day. We headed over to esthwaite lake, in the Lake District of north west England. Snow capped mountains greeted us on arrival, a picture postcard view. After we set all of our gear up and a quick spot of breakfast we headed out onto the water. The aim was to mainly dead bait today, with a few casts of a lure in between.

Fishing was slow from the off. Only one show of interest for me resulting in a nice chunky pike around the low doubles, falling to a smelt bait. After that fish the weather changed and became really cold. That combined with the extra cold water from storm ‘doris’ didn’t seem to do us any favours. But that didn’t matter. What a place to be, and beats being at work any day.
