When the Slave River peaked this summer at roughly 6100 cms and started dropping we all assumed that was it. However, spring flooding in BC meant the Williston Reservoir at the Bennett Dam was flowing at over capacity. The taps went on and we found our river flows going back up and hovering consistently at 5500 cms. The cool part about the Slave is as the river changes levels something new comes in. This something new is usually an awesome play wave. Today and for much of this week, this play wave is Sweet Spot. A super trashy and most fun wave that gives you some of the biggest air you will get on this river. In fact, the biggest air you may get anywhere at a normal flow. Situated right below the infamous Molly’s Nipple, Sweet Spot is formed by an island. I have to admit, it is taking me a while to want to surf with my eyes closed!
